Barstow Area Information

Barstow of San Bernardino County, California is the transportation center for the Inland Empire. The city serves as home to the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow as well as the US Army National Training Center, the Burlington Northern – Santa Fe Railroad Yards, and NASA’s Deep Space Network. Centrally located in the western Mojave, the historically mining city also paves the way to the Mojave National Preserve. As a well-known mining center and railroad metropolis of the Eastern California’s Mojave Desert, the city of Barstow developed immensely due to the construction of an advanced Interstate Highway system. The Barstow Property Management team is prepared to demonstrate the city’s progression via its modern and historic amenities, which includes the Inland Empire’s Mojave Desert transportation hub.

The Mojave Desert was occupied by Indian Tribes and by the late 1800s, the Barstow area industrialized into the mining center. Named after the former Santa Fe Railway president, William Barstow Strong, the city was aligned with Calico Junction 5 miles downriver. The construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad which connected Mojave to Daggett helped construct the infamous mining center. In 1882, Calico Junction was renamed after the California Lieutenant Governor, John Daggett. During this time, silver was being discovered in the Calico Mountains and the infamous 20-mule teams evolved. Once the silver disappeared, the mine shut down shortly thereafter in 1886.

Even with the demise of Calico and Daggett, Barstow continued to grow. The city became an affluent rail center in addition to a popular location for immigrants entering the state via Route 66. Many of the historical facilities and original construction zones are still available in Barstow, many of which are managed with Raken technology. More so, the crafting of the modern features makes this city the traveler’s destination.
