Upland Area Information

Upland Property Managers

Chaffey purchased a tract of land for the Ontario Colony. Although North Ontario was devised as a part of the land, its residents experienced a geographical boundary that swayed far north of the pre-existing colony. In 1888, the Bedford Brothers arrived in the colony and built a grand hotel called the Magnolia Villa. As a result, many of the North Ontario residents began referring to their city as Magnolia rather than Ontario. The Bedford Brothers also invested money on the Magnolia Villa land for profit. With Magnolia Villa as the downtown staple, more plots were sold. The residents continued to consider Magnolia as their home; also claiming downtown as their own.

Ontario’s population was growing as more and more families migrated to the area to settle. The colony was thriving primarily due to the mule drawn street-cars and the citrus industry that revealed amazing wealth. Citrus was the focal trade in the Ontario Colony as well as in North Ontario, yet the residents desired to separate the sectors’ crop. A resident and owner of the Ontario Fruit Exchange, Charles D. Adams proposed the creation of a newly formed citrus association that would be called Upland Citrus Association. Mr. Adams chose the name Upland because he was aware that fruit is produced at a higher altitude to produce better quality. The business efforts of the Bedford Brothers began to disintegrate during the 1800s. As a result, Magnolia Villa was forced to surrender and the residents embraced the Upland name. In 1902, North Ontario was successfully renamed Upland.

Ontario pushed for a larger territorial incorporation and Upland fought back. The tract of land (located in Upland) that Ontario was seeking held tracks for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, along with the train depot and post office. Because this did not settle well with the residents, they conjugated at the International Order of the Odd Fellows office to discuss the incorporation. As a part of the committee of men designated to plea before the Board of Supervisors, Kirk Vernon decided to circulate a formal petition amongst the Upland residents. Citizens overwhelmingly voted for incorporation and appeared before the board, which enticed a formal hearing set for March 1906. The Upland Property Management team will work seamlessly to manage the Upland property and take care of all details for landlords.
