Beaumont Area Information

Many surveying explorers during the early 1850s passed through the tract of what is now known as Beaumont. In 1853, a surveying expedition under the supervision of the United States Government appointed Lieutenant R.S. Williamson discovered the San Gorgonio Pass. The discovery thrilled many in that they were beginning to see that connecting to the ocean was a feasible option to consider. They realized how it may pave the way for the future plans to connect a railway from the Missouri River to the Pacific. Beaumont Property Management team is available to share the town’s background as well as manage property for landlords.

The Union Pacific Railroad laid tracks throughout the modern-day scene of Beaumont. A site was identified at the summit of the pass which was ultimately called the Edgar Station. Edgar Station was named after a physician from one of the original expedition troops. The station served as a rest stop for railway travelers departing from the Mojave Desert in route to the Los Angeles area. Soon thereafter, the Edgar Station was renamed by a real estate developer who then changed the name to San Gorgonio. The Beaumont landmark began to attract more and more permanent settlers.

San Gorgonio adopted its current French name Beaumont after its incorporation in 1912. The city of Beaumont (“beautiful mountain”) quickly boasted a healthy population, along with five churches, a public library, a high school, two local newspapers, lumber yards, commercial packing houses, a dehydrating plant, and a bank. The local residents often referred to their city as “the land of the big red apple” as it was one of Riverside County’s largest apple cultivators.

In the 1930s, Beaumont experienced an upswing in residents and visitors due to the popular resort oasis in the nearby city of Palm Springs. Beaumont attempted to capitalize on the tourist attraction by establishing its own guest ranching. According to a postcard dating back to the 1930s/1940s, the Highland Springs Guest Ranch of Beaumont offered its patrons a host of activities such as horseback riding, tennis, archery, swimming, horseshoes, ping pong, shuffle- board, ballroom dancing, massages, and basketball.
