Claremont Area Information

The success of the modern-day Claremont is primarily due to the actions of the community’s founders of more than 100 years ago. The Claremont Property Management professionals help landlords manage their properties in this historical college town located on the eastern border of Las Angeles County, California. Some of the nation’s most highly regarded cultural and educational institutions have been the Claremont colleges. Today’s citizens continue to live in the spirit of Claremont’s original “town meeting”, which mirrors the successes of the past in anticipation of safeguarding an even better future.

The Serrano Indians were the first known Claremont region inhabitants. On a mesa located a few hundred yards northeast of the Foothill and Indian Hill Boulevards, the explorers discovered evidence of a Serrano Village. As the Californian Spanish period took flight in 1771, the Mission San Gabriel was discovered. The tracts owned by the mission stretched as far as the San Pedro Bay from the San Bernardino Mountains. Because the city of Claremont was a part of the mission’s tract, many of the Serranos were employed by the padres as shepherds.

In 1834, the missions were secularized by the Mexican government. After which, most of the land situated within the city limits became a part of the Rancho San Jose (owned by Richard Vejar and Don Ygnacio Palomares). Maria Ygnacio, Ygnacio’s sister, resided in the neighboring Memorial Park area with her husband and family in an adobe house. The Serrano Indians worked for the Spanish settlers until the onset of a massive epidemic of smallpox, occurring in 1862 and 1873. The remaining Serrano colonizers departed the area by 1883.
