Escondido Area Information

The Escondido Property Management team will professionally oversee all the overall details of your Escondido area property. This California city in the North County region occupies a shallow valley ringed by rocky hills and historic districts. Escondido is one of the oldest cities in San Diego and is often referred to as Eskondid in Diegueño.

The Escondido expanse was initially settled by the Luiseño. They called the area “Mehel-om-pom-pavo once they had established villages and campsites along the inland creeks. Eventually, the Kumeyaay migrated to the land from the Colorado River range. Upon arriving, the Kumeyaay settled in both the San Pasqaul Valley and in the southwestern and western zones adjacent to the San Dieguito River upon which is currently the city of Escondido. Because of constant development and agriculture, most of the original villages and campsites were destroyed.

From the late 18th century into the early 19th century, Spain maintained control of the land. And, Spain successfully established numerous missions in California where they focused on converting indigenous people. Mexico gained its independence from Spain and the land was divided into large ranchos. Most of the Escondido city is now occupying what is known as the Rancho Rincon del Diablo. The “Devil’s Corner” is a Mexican land great awarded to Juan Bautista Alvarado by Governor Manuel Micheltorena in 1843. At the time, Alvador was a Regidor of Las Angeles as well as the first Regidor of the pueblo of San Diego. Escondido southern region inhabits what was the former Rancho San Bernardo that was granted in 1842 and 1845. Escondido was incorporated in 1888 which makes it a staple of San Diego County.
