Oceanside Area Information
Oceanside is a coastal city situated on California’s South Coast and is currently the third-largest city in San Diego County, California. The United States conquered the coastline oasis from the Spanish and Mexican reign in 1848. Today, often referred to as the “hub of Southern California”, the Oceanside locality has become the classic beach community which is attributable to stunning seashore access and incomparable recreation.
The Oceanside area was originally inhabited by Native Americans then the European explorers merged in 1769. The Spanish missionaries, led by Father Junipero Serra discovered Mission San Luis Rey de Francia on a frontal site within the Luiseño Indian village and on the banks of San Luis Rey River. And, by the early 19th century, farming and grazing was introduced, which forever changed the landscape of what has come to be the milestone Oceanside.
Andrew Jackson Myers lived in San Joaquin County around the latter 1850. Myers was a native of LaSalle County, Illinois and returned to reside in the San Luis Rey area in the late 1880s. He relocated in 1882 to the land of what was originally identified as the town site for Oceanside. In 1883, a patent for the land was allotted by the federal government and incorporated on July 3, 1888. As of the early 21st century, the city hall continues to stand on what is formally known as the Myers homestead.
By the 20th century, Oceanside California had become the community of warm sandy beaches and year around sunny climates, complete with unlimited water sports and recreational activities such as Legoland California, SeaWorld, Disneyland, and the San Diego Zoo. The San Diego North Shore and its 6-mile stretch coastline also include the downtown residential areas (constructed in the 1890s), historical interstate housing developments, and South Oceanside (constructed in the 1920’s and 1930s). Located just south of the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, established in 1942, Oceanside is considered the hub for the US armed personnel and the wartime industry of WW11. In the 1950s, Oceanside also acquired an ammunition manufacturing facility that was positioned right in the heart of the city.
